Liverpool manager Arne Slot said he believes his side's worrisome performance against Wolverhampton Wanderers was partly due to the disappointment of their surprise Merseyside derby draw with Everton on Wednesday.
Liverpool beat Wolves 2-1 at Anfield, with first-half goals from Mohamed Salah and Luis DÃaz enough to secure the three points, although Matheus Cunha scored a brilliant second-half winner for Wolves.
VÃtor Pereira's side were the better side in the second half, and Slot believes the disappointment of James Tarkowski's 98th-minute equaliser at Goodison Park affected the Wolves game.
"Of course, at the end of the game we felt a certain relief, especially after what happened on Wednesday," Slot said. "The last eight minutes when the goal was scored, it was very painful because you know that moment can affect the next game and the others that come after."
"You saw today, when we scored the second goal, for the first time this season we felt a little nervous. After Everton scored in the last minute, that followed us mentally."
He added: “It’s hard to win a football match – people might say: ‘You’ve got Mo Salah, what are you complaining about?’ But no, it’s very hard to win every three days. That’s why this win is important, as we’re going into a big week, where we hope we can show a calm mentality that encourages us to play well.”
