During last summer, there were many movements around the Turkish player, in January they will try again
The future of Hakan Calhanoglu is once again one of the most discussed topics in Turkey and Italy. The Ottoman midfielder, a key figure at Inter Milan, is determined to make a change in his career and return to Istanbul, where Galatasaray continues to dream of seeing him wear their shirt once more.
After a summer full of failed negotiations, the Turkish board has not given up on their goal and is already preparing for the final offensive next January. During the last summer window, Galatasaray pressured persistently up to the European competition registration limit. However, Inter's firm stance, considering Calhanoglu a cornerstone of their midfield, ended up blocking any chance of departure. The Italians rejected all economic proposals, leaving the player with no choice but to continue in Serie A.

Nevertheless, optimism reigns in Turkey. As reported by 'Sabah', the Turkish club's plan is to come back strongly in the winter market, convinced that this time the player's desire will play a decisive role. Calhanoglu has not only made clear his intention to return home but would also be willing to lower his salary demands to pave the way.
He currently earns around 6.5 million euros per season, but he understands that, to make the operation viable, he will have to give up part of his income. Furthermore, his contract with Inter ends in June 2026, although the player does not consider a renewal. On the contrary, he seeks an agreement allowing him to leave for a price close to 10 million euros, an amount Galatasaray finds manageable.

From the player's side, the strategy seems clear: to insist that the Nerazzurri board lower their financial demands to facilitate a transfer that would benefit all parties. For Inter, it would mean a significant sale of a player already over thirty; for Galatasaray, it would mean adding talent, experience, and leadership in the midfield; and for Calhanoglu, it would fulfill the personal desire to play again in his homeland.
The Turkish international has gained international recognition for his vision, ability to control the pace of games, and powerful free-kick shot. Wearing Inter's shirt, he has lifted titles and established himself as a reference in European football, but the desire to return to Istanbul seems stronger than any challenge in Italy.
January looms as the decisive month. Galatasaray fans dream of seeing their national star shine again in Turkish football, while in Milan, the debate rages on whether it is the right time to part with a key player. With the player's will and the persistent interest of the Turkish club, Calhanoglu's return to Istanbul no longer seems like just a dream but a very real possibility.
